Coaching procedure
A coaching programme takes place in the following steps depending upon individual needs:
Step 1
- Assessing the situation and defining aims for the coaching programme
- Looking back: what has been tried already? What was successful?
- Identifying the task at hand and defining the first small steps: What do I want to change? What is to stay the same?
Step 2
- First progress check: has anything changed yet? If so, what?
- Looking back to the past with the aim of gathering together resources
- Planning specific steps and take-home tasks
- Setting milestones
Step 3
- Viewing the aim in context along with one's personal environment
- Summing up support: who is supporting the aim? Who or what is obstructing the aim?
- Tracking down resources in the environment
Step 4
- Researching the causes: finding parallels with similar past situations
- Recognising repeated patterns of behaviour and resulting learning outcomes
- Evaluating the pattern: looking at it in other contexts
- Developing alternative patterns of behaviour
Step 5
- Checking the steps already taken
- Feedback, support and advice: planning further steps together
- Fine-tuning, always with the goal in mind
Depending on the topic, the following supplementary steps are taken:
Improving communication skills
- Input for professional support and communication techniques
- Carrying out role plays
Conflict resolution
- Practising applying behavioural changes in role plays
- In case of conflict, discussion with your opponent if required
- Take-home tasks
Strengthening self-development skills
- Working on values and aims. What is important to me? Do I live out these values?
- Conflict between personal values and everyday (working) demands
- Developing integrative solutions
