Employee motivation motivate me!
Is management really responsible for the motivation of its employees? And if so, what is effective motivational (managerial) behaviour? If one understands motivation with Prof. Rolf Wunderer as being the “condition of the inner drive”, the opportunities for exerting external influence appear to be decidedly limited.
Motivation is like oil in a motor. If sufficiently available, it runs “in a well-oiled fashion”. If the motor runs dry, it causes irreparable damage. Management personnel are thus challenged to regularly inspect the “oil level” and to examine the current motivational situation of their employees.
They must create an environment and the basic conditions in which the motivation of employees can evolve. In order to do this, they must be familiar with the effective mechanisms of motivation for themselves as well as for others. With our support, management personnel learn to emotionally motivate their employees in daily interactions, to remove barriers to motivation and to thus increase the level of motivation on a long-term basis.
